Recommended Backpacking List

So after looking around for the perfect backpacking list I have come to the conclusion that there really isn't a perfect one. Each person’s list will be a little different. I prefer a combination of lists that I have tried over time and added or removed things that I thought worked well. Here is a good list for you to use as a starting point to develop your own.

The 10 Essentials And More

1. Navigation
• Map (with protective case)
• Compass
• GPS (optional)

2. Sun protection
• Sunscreen and lip balm
• Sunglasses

3. Insulation
• Jacket, vest, pants, gloves, hat (see Clothing)

4. Illumination
Headlamp or flashlight
• Extra batteries

5. First-aid supplies
• First-aid kit

6. Fire
• Matches or lighter
• Waterproof container
• Fire starter

7. Repair kit and tools
• Knife or multi-tool
• Kits for stove, mattress
• Duct tape strips

• Extra day's supply of food
